How Much Do Retainers Cost?

It’s a very exciting day when you finish your braces or Invisalign treatment. Retainers are the secret ingredient to keeping your smile straight and beautiful for life! But how much do retainers cost?

The cost of most retainers is included in your initial treatment fee, but if you need to replace or repair your retainer, you will have to pay out of pocket. Removable Retainers

Removable retainers are our preferred method of smile retention. Modern technology has made removable retainers more comfortable and sleek than ever before!

The question “how much do retainers cost” is tricky to answer. Your total retainer cost will depend on where you are in your treatment and if you are paying for a replacement, if you are buying a retainer, or if you are getting a retainer without orthodontic treatment. The following figures are rough estimates that do not include insurance or other deductions. Additionally, the cost of repairing or replacing retainers varies.

Hawley Retainer Cost

Hawley removable retainers are a tried-and-true method of keeping teeth in alignment. These plastic retainers feature a subtle wire that runs along the front of these teeth, seamlessly locking in your smile. These cost somewhere between $199-$300 per retainer.

Overlay Retainer Cost

An overlay retainer is made from a durable clear plastic material that fits over the teeth, giving you a virtually invisible smile retention experience. They cost somewhere between $50-$300 per retainer.

Digital Retention Program

Patients with good oral hygiene may qualify for our Digital Retainer Program. Upper and lower overlay retainers can cost upwards of $199 each. As a member of our Digital Retention Program, you will only need to pay $680 for three sets — including uppers and lowers — of overlay retainers.

The Digital Retention program is a smart investment. Retainers are one of those things that are often misplaced or broken. As a member of our Digital Retainer Program, you will have backup sets ready to go. We keep your records on file, so even if you lose or break all three sets of your overlay retainers, we can create a new one for you quickly.

Permanent Retainers Cost

Permanent retainers are great for patients who need a little extra smile security once their braces come off. This type of retainer is made of a wire that is bonded behind the teeth, keeping your smile radiant for years to come. Repairing or replacing your retainer will generally cost between $199-$500.

Are Online Retainers Worth It?

We only recommend that patients get retainers from an experienced orthodontist. It’s possible to get a retainer through an online retailer that will send you an impression kit and “custom-fitted” retainers by mail.

However, working with these companies often has a high margin of error. The average person doesn’t have the skill to get a perfect impression, and there’s no guarantee that the retailer will fit your retainers correctly. This means that the smile you’ve worked so hard for could be ruined! Always get a retainer through an experienced orthodontist who has the skill and knowledge necessary to provide a lifetime of beautiful smiles.
